Bedstars
Bedstars is a rock’n’roll band formed in 2010 in Beijing, consisting of vocalist Zhao Kai, salesman of “personal hygienic products”; bassist Wang Chao, professional shopping mall manager; drummer Li Fan, professional guitar dealer; and guitarist Wang Xuan, professional acolyte of traditional Chinese script. Their music carries on the classic punk rock tradition, finding simple and delicate truths within the rough grit of urban life, wide open and without inhibition. As for their live shows, it’s been said: “Sometimes they’re like the breath of a furious dragon, sometimes like mud thrown at a wall…..”
Even though they love booze, drinking for drinking’s sake is not the band’s theme. They’re undoubtedly one of the most special bands within the Beijing punk scene, a group of four unique characters, each with his own distinctive traits, but melded into a consistent, insouciant shared identity.
Bedstars’ debut studio album — Wet Hearts & Dry Vomit — was mixed by Yang Fan, the mastermind of seminal Beijing rock outfit Ourself Beside Me, and released by Maybe Mars Records in July 2015.
